$2.5MM Grant Reinstated to Fund Construction of Woodridge Park District’s Athletic Recreation Center

Funds will be used to construct the ARC Multi-Activity Court (MAC) as originally planned

After a 22-month suspension of the originally approved Park and Recreational Facility Construction (PARC) grant authorized in October 2014, the Woodridge Park District was notified on August 10, 2016 by the Illinois Department of Natural Resources that the District’s $2.5MM grant was reinstated for full funding. The grant funds were earmarked to complete the original facility design which encompassed a Multi Activity Court gym. This approximately 6,900 – 8,800 square foot space was removed from the original development program due to the previous grant suspension. Now that the grant has been reinstated, the Board of Park Commissioners authorized the project team to move forward in constructing the MAC gym as originally planned. The MAC Court Gym will provide additional opportunities for basketball, volleyball, floor hockey, pickleball, multi-purpose activities, dedicated space for camps and after-school programs, group exercise space and much more.

Design development and construction drawings are underway in order to finalize permitting, solicit bids in late winter and begin construction as soon as weather conditions permit in early spring 2017. Completion of the addition is expected for late fall 2017. Construction for the addition will not impact programming or operations scheduled within the original facility.
